Almost there
- 3 months earlier -
The sounds of an intense fight resounded through the huge halls underneath the monastery. Whoever were fighting here, it sounded like their lives depended on it. And that was actually quite true. Achille couldn't afford any mistakes now. This wasn't practise anymore, this was a real battle. He was sure Ezio would cut his throat if he had the chance, so he fought for all he was worth, which was quite a lot after almost 3 years of intensive training. Since that night 3 years ago, when Ezio had caught him and Vito kissing, Achille had been training harder than ever before.
"Keep it together Achille, your footwork is getting sloppy!"
Achille didn't have time to answer. He was too focused on his master's sword to talk or even think about talking. Outside the circle, Vito was sitting on a pile of hey filled bags analyzing every move his master and boyfriend made. He could see his friend was getting tired and figured this fight would soon be over.
Ezio attacked and Achille's fierce counter took him by surprise. His sword was knocked out of his hands and spun across the floor. He was so surprised he completely forgot to guard. Achille saw the opening, tackled him and put the tip of his sword against his master's throat. Vito was stunned.
"Well done", Ezio said as he got up. "Playing tired and using my weak spots. Very good." He picked up his sword again. "You're done for now. Come to my office after dinner."

*knock knock*
"Avanti", Ezio said. While Achille sat down, he studied the boy. 3 years ago, he'd seen a boy with great talent and potential. During the long years of training, that potential had become real skill. Achille was by far the best archer in the entire monastery, even surpassing the skills of Ezio himself. That boy managed to pull of shots the master himself didn't dare dream about. Like that time Achille'd shot a guard with a crossbow while backflipping into the water. Or that time the target had escaped on a horse. He'd already ridden more than 120 metres when Achille's arrow hit him in the neck. Despite the strong wind the shot had been perfect.
But don't think archery was all he could do. Ezio'd made sure his hand-to-hand combat and sword fighting skills were that of an assassin's.
"Achille, I have a mission I need you to take care of. 3 days ago, a merchant tipped us of a templar visiting Roma. His name is Vito di Scada. He's no big fish, but that doesn't mean he's allowed to live. The purpose of his visit is still unknown, but it probably has something to do with the recent rumbling in the thief guilds. You have to find out why he is in Roma. Once you know what he's up to, you kill him. Because he's no particularly important person he won't be guarded, but don't think it'll be easy. He is a cautious man.
There are no conditions you have to fulfil on this hit. Just get the intel and send his soul to the next world. You are allowed to grab any gear you want from the basement. Any questions?"
Achille was confused. Until now he had done every mission with at least one partner – preferably Vito – and always with sufficient background info. Now he had to do everything himself, which was cool and a bit scary at the same time.
"Why am I going alone?", he asked.
Ezio's reply was simple: "because you're good enough to do it alone." Achille could see he wasn't getting anything else out of his master so he let it go. He said goodnight and went to the basement to grab his gear. He would leave with first light.

A few days later, Achille finally reached the capital of Italy, Roma. It was the most beautiful city he'd ever seen. Countless churches, cathedrals, piazza's and palazzo's decorated the capital of Italia. Out of curiosity he entered one of the many churches. Stunned, he looked at the massive gold ceiling.
'this must have cost a fortune!', he thought. All the paintings, the beautiful architecture, he could have stayed here for hours. But he had a mission, so he dragged himself out of the church back to the hot streets.
After a few hours, Achille started to notice Roma was also the ugliest city he had ever seen. Beggars, homeless and sick people were everywhere. Only the biggest and wealthiest piazza's were guarded against the scum of the city. Unfortunately Achille didn't look rich enough to be a noble, so the guards wouldn't let him through either. He cursed silently and decided to sneak around the guards later, because he'd spotted an awesome sword at a fabbro. A short, black sword with a narrow blade with double cutting edge. Perfect for night missions. And he needed to go shopping at a herbalist, which could only be found in the rich – and therefore guarded – parts of the city. So he decided to go to his safe-house in the poor district and wait until the next morning.
Before sunrise, he left his house and looked the door. After putting on the double trap he went on his way. It's a lot easier to sneak past guards when you take the high road, so he jumped from roof to roof. He made good progress, despite the archers he had to evade so now and then. Soon he had found a herbalist who might look like he had some illegal plants. The man needed some err… encouragement, but he eventually sold the deadly herbs Achille was looking for. He even gave a nice discount. Next up was the blacksmith and after a morning of shopping, it was time for research.

It took Achille 4 days to find his target, 3 more to find out what he was up to. Apparently he was acting as a messenger for someone. This 'someone' probably had a name, but Achille couldn't find out what it was. Very few seemed to know this man and the people who did know him were too afraid to tell. All Achille found out was that Mr. Mystery might be an enemy of la Volpe. This however, proved to be a dead end when Achille visited la Volpe. So much for the research. The target would only stay in Roma for another 2 days before he left for Venice, so Achille had to hurry.
He mixed the ingredients he'd bought a week ago and covered a dagger with the poison. A few drips were enough to kill a horse, so Achille was sure this guy wouldn't survive, even with a shallow cut. He put the dagger in a leather sheath and tugged it behind his belt. Morte, his new sword – he gave all his swords a name – was strapped to his back when he left his safe-house for the last time.
Yesterday he'd found out that his target would arrange a ship this afternoon. The shortest and most crowded route from the guys house was through Piazza di Spagna. That's where he would strike. However, there were some minor difficulties. Piazza di Spagna was a place for middle class to high class merchants and because of that well guarded. And the guards here were quite sharp-eyed so just punching a blade between the ribs wouldn't cut it. That's where the poison was for. Achille would slightly cut the target, transmitting the poison. The cut would be so small Vilace would hardly notice. And if he did, it would already be too late.
Because he didn't want to be late he decided to take the creative route. He ran towards a pile boxed and in one swift move he jumped on the crates, ran up the wall, grabbed a ledge, turned and jumped again. He was gone, free running across the rooftops, before anyone realized what had happed.
He was making great progress as he rounded the next corner. He froze. A guard was facing him with a highly surprised look on his face.
  "Assassin!", the guard yelled.
"Cazzo!" Achille knocked the guard out and made a run for it. Other soldiers were already climbing the roof and following him. Achille cursed as he scrabbled across rooftops and performed some daring wallruns. Too bad the Roman guard was so damn well trained. They just wouldn't give up! But Achille wasn't just a random criminal either, he was the apprentice of Ezio Auditore da Firenze. He ran towards the river. Without hesitation he leaped for the water.
With water dripping from his clothes he got out of the water a good 60 metres further. Looks like the guards had lost him. Time to get on with the mission then.

At last, he reached Piazza di Spagna. Achille settled in the shadows on a balcony overlooking the plaza. From here he had a good view on the target's house. Now came the most difficult part of the entire operation: waiting. Several hours passed without any sign of the target and Achille was getting nervous. Had he been wrong? Had the target already left? Just as he got ready to jump down the balcony and check the house, the front door opened. There he was, Vilace di Scada. A dead man walking. He just didn't know it yet. Achille jumped down and made his way towards Di Scada. Effortlessly he blended in with the crowd as he approached his target. Almost there, and his target still hadn't noticed him. He took out his knife and kept it pressed against his left wrist. Innocently he bumped into Di Scada.
  "Scuzy, signore", he mumbled.
Di Scada scowled at him and said: "Look where you're going!"
Achille looked him in the eyes but didn't stop.
"Cazzo, that hurt. I'm bleeding? The fuck tried to rob me?!" Di Scada grabbed for his purse and found it was still there. Not knowing what would happen to him in just a few hours, he rushed to the docks for his appointment.
Achille smiled. Mission successful. All he had to do now was follow his target and wait for him to die. Your regular killer would have left, relying on his gear and expertise, but a true assassin always confirms his target's death.
  So he tailed and waited.
Damn, I have no idea why I kept prosponing uploading the next chapter. I mean, it's been on my laptop for weeks, waiting to be posted. Guess I'm just lazy >.>

However, I promise I'll finish the next part soon and upload it as soon as it's finished!
